Race, Class, Gender

This course considers how race, class, gender, and sexuality, with roots in historical legacies of power, privilege, and oppression, continue to be constructed in a global context. Rather than analyzing race, class, gender, and sexuality as separate and distinct categories of difference, this course utilizes various theories to explore how these variables integrate, overlap, and intersect to affect individuals’ and groups’ lived experiences with structures of power. The course concludes with an examination of social movements and their role in constructing identity, challenging structural inequality, and creating social change. Prerequisite: Intro to Diversity Studies 10809172 or Intro to Sociology 10809196 both with a C or better
